Low Ropes Challenge
Course Elements

ROCK CLIMBING BOULDERING WALL- Beginning to Advanced

Bouldering walls are utilized by rock climbers to increase strength, agility, technique and balance. This wall is a horizontally placed Rock Climbing Wall that is eight feet high, eliminating the necessity for ropes, harnesses and other gear that is necessary for a vertically oriented wall.

Features can be built in to more accurately simulate features that may be found on real rock.

The climbing holds are modular and can be continually changed to provide an almost infinite variety of challenges. The wall will be challenging for beginners and more advanced clients alike.

Burma Bridge - Beginning

Picture yourself in the jungles of Burma. You come across a great gorge and a bridge that is your only means of continued travel. The bridge consists of a cable for you to walk on and two ropes at your side for balance. Good luck!

Two Line Bridge - Intermediate

Further along in your journey you discover another bridge. You know that this one is going to be a further test of your nerve and determination to complete your journey. The two-line bridge is a cable for your feet and one rope at waist level to help you with your balance. Again you are two and a half stories high.

Heebie-Jeebie - Advanced

The Heebie -Jeebie isn't named that for nothin'. It is certain to give you the heebie-jeebies. You start to traverse on one rope that starts at head level and slowly descends until it is at your knees where you will find a second rope (at knee level, of course) that slowly ascends back to head level on the return. All the while, walking on a 3/8" cable. But in the meantime.....

Hourglass - Advanced

The hourglass is similar to the Heebie-Jeebie but for the fact that there is no foot cable to stand on. A participant has to use the ropes, one for feet, one for hands, in order to traverse. But then they have to make the transfer and switch in the middle. Whew!

Multi-vine - Intermediate

The multi-vine traverse is a series of vines that hang down requiring participants to move from vine to vine to traverse while walking on a 3/8" cable. This element is a bit different than the above-mentioned elements adding some variety to your high course.

Trust Platform- Advanced

The Trust Platform is a great advanced challenge where participants fall or dive (the more advanced version) into the waiting arms of their team.

Wild Woozy - Intermediate Partners

The Wild Woozy is a great element to perform in pairs. Two people clasp hands and traverse a set of cables in a "V" shape, each walking on one of the cables. The farther they traverse the more they have to lean on one another. The only way for them to succeed is to put their total trust in the other. Great metaphor for being a team player and utilizing the strength of others in an organization!

Tension Traverse - Beginning

The Tension Traverse is cable with a rope perpendicular to it. The participant has to traverse the cable with only the rope to use for balance. A great metaphor for maintaining personal and organizational balance. For those that really want to test their balance we have the advanced version: the parallel rope.

Mohawk Walk- Advanced Group

The tribe has run out of food. The lives of hundreds rest in your small teams hands. The only way to keep the tribe alive is for your team to cross the great Gorge and reach a neighboring tribe and return with food. The bridge that you built last spring was washed away in the snowmelt but for a single horizontal vine that crosses each of the four branches of the Gorge. You must cross the Gorge in order to reach the tribe. Your people are counting on you. Very difficult group challenge that will assist a group that is working well to achieve greatness.

Nitro Crossing - Intermediate

Your team is a group of fire fighters and has been called to fight a fire in Yellowstone. After parachuting you ended up on the wrong side of the canyon. You now have to swing your whole team across the canyon utilizing a rope that a helicopter has dropped for you. If one member falls in the whole team has to come back. Oh by the way don't forget the nitro glycerin that you need to fight the fire. The support of one another is crucial for success.

Spider Web - Intermediate

You are the greatest archaeologists in the world on a journey to find the Holy Grail. You've come across a spider web that spans many miles in all directions. Your guide tells you of the legend of the giant spider whose web has magical powers. Once the first member of the team goes through the web it alerts the spider that will arrive in ten minutes to devour everyone. When a hole in the web is crossed it closes not allowing anyone else to pass. And if a member touches the web the whole team must return and start over. The Holy Grail, fame and fortune await you but beware the giant spider. Great metaphors for teamwork in the face of deadlines and the ever-looming competition and customer service.

Swinging Log - Intermediate

The swinging log is suspended and only those with the greatest of balance will keep from ending up in the lion's den. One has to traverse the log with nothing to hold on to while it sways to and fro. The advanced version is not for the faint at heart, do it with a partner!

Boson's Chairs - Intermediate

When climbers spend multiple days on those big walls they spend a lot of time in their Boson's Chairs, now you will too. The Boson's are a series of foot or two wide platforms that you have to swing from to traverse a section of abyss. The summit awaits you but the limitless expanse of the abyss does also. It calls your name. Use your chairs well. Great metaphors for accomplishing multiple tasks, staying organized and maintaining momentum.

Tire Traverse - Intermediate

The tires swing every which way, but they are your sole means of traversing the river that is swollen from the spring thaw. Hold tight because if you fall...

Fidget Ladder - Advanced

You may have seen them at a carnival but now you are the proud owner of the Fidget Ladder. The ladder continually tries to flip you as you ascend. Your sense of balance is the only friend you have. Great metaphors for staying calm, focused on goals and dealing with pressure.

Port Hole- Intermediate

The ship is on fire if there are to be any survivors they all have to get out through the porthole with the help of others as all other exits are blocked by flame or smoke. A good group challenge that requires everyone to assist one another.

Shipwreck- Intermediate to Advanced

Your team has been shipwrecked. A number of you have been disabled but in different ways.

You need to work together with the abilities that you have remaining in order to get your team out of the smoking and burning plane and to safety. This element utilizes a cargo net that is horizontally placed that members have to negotiate. This element is an excellent challenge for mixed or homogenous groups of people that are physically challenged providing a sensitivity to these issues.

Muse - Intermediate

The Muse is a cognitive as well as physical challenge. The team has to traverse a section of alligator infested waters in order to reach safety and achieve their goal of finding the Holy Grail.

Only one sticking point: the apparatus that they are using only fits one way and there is a secret configuration that must be determined. The muse is a set of planks and small islands that the group has to use in order to traverse the water.

Teeter-Totter - Intermediate to Advanced

The Teeter-Toter is the ultimate group balancing act. The group has to balance themselves on a tentatively placed beam and then keep the beam from touching the ground on either side. Sounds easy huh...

The Whale Watch - Intermediate to Advanced

A larger version of the Teeter-Toter the Whale Watch is a simulated boat that the group has to stand on and balance as if on the high seas. Only thing missing is the whale spouts. A good follow-up to the Teeter-Toter.

Giants Necklace - Intermediate

Try to traverse the necklace without waking the sleeping Giant. A series of logs independently suspended from a cable so the each log can spin.

Log Traverse - Intermediate

A series of four logs suspended from trees at different heights. Participants traverse from one log to another.

"THE WALL" - Advanced

The Finale. The wall is the culmination of all the other events. After finishing the new dam, you receive a message on your walkie-talkie that the old dam has broken and a fifteen-foot wall of water will be upon you in ten minutes. The only way out is to get your entire team over the twelve-foot dam in that time. This element ties together a lot of the concepts we have been focusing on. The metaphors include the fact that a team is only as good as the members in it and that everyone is important and valued. The team cannot succeed without the commitment and support of all of its members. We need to get everyone over "The Wall."

Portables

These portable initiatives can be purchased. These are generally great group activities that can be taken anywhere. Please inquire about others not listed here.

All Aboard - Intermediate

Being the world population experts that you are you have to get your whole group up on to a very small platform to demonstrate what life will be like in the year 2020 on Planet Earth. But once you get there you also have to sing a song that you all agree upon.

Trollies - Beginning

In search of the lost civilization of Atlantis you come upon the great expanse tar pit which you have to cross. Luckily you brought your trollies to help. Trollies are 4x4's with ropes attached to help you get across.

Spiders Web- Advanced

The Spiders web as outlined above in the Low Ropes section can be built as a portable element.

Four Way Tug - Large Group Activity

The Four Way tug is an excellent large group activity outlining the competition vs. cooperation dynamic. Break the team up into four sub teams let them tug away and then give them the opportunity to cooperate. Lots of fun and learning.

Kid's Elements

A lot of the elements listed above can also be built low to the ground or in such a way as to accommodate smaller children. Please call to inquire about these modifications, as we will have to know more about your clientele.
